E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Aim: This study aim to investigate the effect of a denture cleanser on hardness, roughness and tensile bond strength of a rigid (Kooliner) and a soft denture liner (Elite Soft) after 7, 60 and 120 days of immersion. Methods: Thirty circular and twenty rectangular specimens of each material were randomly distributed in two groups: control immersion in artificial saliva at 37°C; and experimental immersion in artificial saliva at 37oC combined with immersion in the cleanser for 5 min. Hardness was measured using either a Vickers or Shore A hardness tester, and a surface roughness tester was used to measure the surface roughness. Tensile bond strength was carried out on a universal testing machine. Data were analyzed statistically by ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis test (α=0.05). Results: No significant difference was found between the groups for the tested properties (p>0.05). There was an increase in the hardness of both materials after 60 days (p>0.05). No difference between the immersion periods was found for the roughness of Kooliner (p>0.05), although the roughness of Elite Soft decreased after 120 days in both groups (p>0.05). Kooliner presented higher tensile bond strength than Elite Soft (p>0.05). Conclusions: Both materials showed alterations on the tested properties during the experimental period, but these changes were not promoted by the denture cleanser.

Comparison of the Effect of two Denture Cleansers on Tensile bond Strength of a Denture Liner

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM One of the most clinical challenging issues in prosthodontics is debonding of soft liners from the denture base. PURPOSE The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare tensile bond strength between soft liner and heat-cured acrylic resin when immersed in two different types of denture cleanser and distilled water, at different period of times. MATERIALS AND METHOD In...

Evaluate the Effect of Commercially Available Denture Cleansers on Surface Hardness and Roughness of Denture Liners at Various Time Intervals

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Chemical cleansing by denture cleansers is first choice for denture plaque control. The most common problems while using denture cleansers are hardening, porosity, odor sorption, water sorption, solubility, and colour change, bacterial and fungal growth. Chemical cleansing procedures have been found to have an effect on the physical and mechanical properties of denture ...

The influence of silicone remover on the tensile bond strength of resilient denture liner to an acrylic denture base resin

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of silicone remover on tensile bond strength of eight silicone-resilient denture liners to a denture base resin. Durability of bond strength of resilient denture liner to denture base resin was also examined by thermal cycling test. Materials and Methods: Eight commercial silicone resilient denture liners were used. The specimens...

Effect of Beverages on the Hardness and Tensile Bond Strength of Temporary Acrylic Soft Liners to Acrylic Resin Denture Base

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Two potential problems commonly identified with a denture base incorporating a resilient liner are failure of the bond between acrylic resin and soft liner material, and loss of resiliency of the soft liner over time. Since patients may drink different beverages, it is important to evaluate their effects on physical properties of soft lining materials. PURPOSE The objecti...
